1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small data files placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work — or work more efficiently — and to provide useful information to website owners.
Cookies set by LCWAG are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by parties other than LCWAG are called third-party cookies. Third-party cookies enable features or functionality provided through the website by external parties, such as analytics tools and embedded video content.

We use first-party and third-party cookies for the following purposes:

6. Web Beacons and Similar Technologies
In addition to cookies, we may use web beacons (also called tracking pixels or clear GIFs) tiny graphic files with a unique identifier embedded in web pages or HTML emails. Web beacons allow us to:
• Monitor traffic patterns between pages on our website.
• Measure the success of email communications from Constant Contact (for example, whether a newsletter was opened).
• Deliver or communicate with cookies to improve site performance.
Web beacons typically rely on cookies to function. If you disable cookies, web beacons will have limited functionality. Web beacons in our emails can be disabled by setting your email client to display emails in plain text rather than HTML. Alternatively, you may unsubscribe from our email communications entirely using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us at coalitionchair@lcwag.org. Unsubscribing will prevent all future email-based tracking.

YouTube and Embedded Video
If you are logged into a Google or YouTube account while visiting our Site, YouTube may associate your activity with your profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your Google or YouTube account before visiting our Site, or by adjusting your Google account settings at https://myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy.
Constant Contact
If you have subscribed to our newsletter, you may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by contacting us at coalitionchair@lcwag.org. Unsubscribing removes your email from our mailing list and stops future communications.
8. Do Not Track and Opt-Out Preference Signals
Do Not Track (DNT)
Some browsers include a Do Not Track (DNT) feature that sends a signal to websites indicating you do not want your online activity tracked. Our website does not currently alter its data collection practices in response to a DNT signal, as there is no uniform technical standard for how websites should interpret or respond to such signals. However, in preparation for California AB 566 (effective January 1, 2027), we are implementing processes to honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as required. This section will be updated upon implementation.
Global Privacy Control (GPC) and California AB 566
The Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser-based opt-out signal. California’s Opt Me Out Act (AB 566, effective January 1, 2027) will require websites to automatically honor universal opt-out signals from browsers, eliminating the need to navigate individual opt-out settings on each site.
We are monitoring compliance requirements ahead of the January 1, 2027 deadline. While LCWAG is generally exempt from CCPA/CPRA as a nonprofit organization, California residents may voluntarily contact us at coalitionchair@lcwag.org with the subject line “CPRA Rights Request” for any cookie-related privacy inquiries.
9. California Residents – CCPA/CPRA and Cookies
LCWAG is a nonprofit organization and is generally exempt from the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). As a matter of good practice, we note the following for California residents:
• We do not sell your personal information, including information collected via cookies.
• We do not share personal information collected via cookies with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes.
• Google Analytics data is processed by Google under a Data Processing Agreement that restricts Google’s use of that data for advertising purposes. LCWAG does not believe this arrangement constitutes a “sale” or “sharing” for advertising under CPRA; however, users are encouraged to review Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy for full details.
• California residents may contact us at coalitionchair@lcwag.org with the subject line “CPRA Rights Request” for any cookie-related privacy inquiries.
California AB 566 (Opt Me Out Act, effective January 1, 2027): we are preparing to recognize and honor universal opt-out preference signals from browsers as required. See Section 8 for details.
10. Virginia Residents — VCDPA and Cookies
LCWAG is a Virginia nonstock corporation. As a nonprofit, LCWAG is generally exempt from the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA). As a matter of good practice, we note the following:
• We do not use cookies for targeted advertising.
• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are used for internal reporting only and are governed by a data processing agreement that restricts their use for advertising purposes.
• Virginia residents may contact us at coalitionchair@lcwag.org with the subject line “Virginia Privacy Rights Request” to ask questions about how cookie-derived data is processed or to exercise any privacy rights.
